Mahatma Gandhi was a great Indian leader. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. We call him the father of our Nation. He was born at Porbandar on October 2, 1869. His father, Karamchand Gandhi, was the Diwan of Porbandar. His mother, Putlibai, was a religious ( धार्मिक ) woman. Gandhiji was not an intelligent boy at school. But he was honest and truthful. He went to England to study law ( वकालत ). He went to South Africa to fight for the Indians there. Gandhiji loved India. He hated ( घृणा करना ) the English rule. He fought for India's freedom. He was sent to jail several times. Our country became free. But Gandhiji was shot dead on 30th January 1948. We all love and respect him.
