Verb उस शब्द को कहते हैं, जिससे किसी कार्य के होने (action), दशा (state) या स्वामित्व (possession)
का बोध हो l

वाक्यों में
प्रयुक्त शब्द run, go, come तथा dance सभी Verbs हैं। इनसे कोई कार्य
होने का बोध होता है। ऐसी हिंदी क्रियाओं के अंत में ना/ने/नी लगा रहता है। जैसे : run (दौड़ना), go (जाना), come (आना), dance (नाचना)।

वाक्यों में
प्रयुक्त शब्द am, is, are तथा was भी verbs हैं। इन्हें Verb ‘To Be' कहा जाता है। इनसे व्यक्ति या वस्तु की दशा (state) का बोध होता है।

प्रयुक्त शब्द has, have, had भी Verbs हैं। इनसे स्वामित्व, अधिकार या संबंध का बोध होता है।
COMPOUND VERBS (संयुक्त क्रिया)
इन वाक्यों को देखो
I am eating.
She is playing.
We have come
Mukul will sing.

वाक्यों में प्रयुक्त शब्द am eating, is playing, have come, will sing सभी Verbs हैं। कभी Verb एक शब्द का होता है तो कभी एक से अधिक शब्दों का।
A Verb may have one or more than one word.
वैसे verbs को जिनमें more than
one word हों Compound
Verbs ( संयुक्त
क्रियाएँ ) कहते हैं ।
इन वाक्यों को देखो

वाक्यों में goes,
played, walks, talked भी Verbs हैं । ये go, play,
walk तथा talk के ही बदले हुए रूप
हैं । Verb के विभिन्न रूप होते हैं ; इसके प्रत्येक रूप को Verb ही कहा जाता है ।
FORMS OF VERB (क्रिया के रूप)
Verb ‘to be' के रूप: ‘be’:, be,
am, is, are, was, were, being, been
Verb ‘have' के रूप: ‘have’:
have, has, had, having
Verb ‘do' के रूप: ‘do': do, does, did, doing, done
KINDS OF VERBS (क्रिया के भेद)
Verb (क्रिया) के निम्नलिखित भेद होते हैं ।
- Principal Verb (मुख्य क्रिया)
- Auxiliary Verb( सहायक क्रिया )
Principal Verb (मुख्य क्रिया)
इन वाक्यों को
देखो-
He writes.
They read.
Amar laughed.
इन वाक्यों
में read, writes, laughed Principal हैं, Principal
Verb को Main Verb
या Full Verb
भी कहा जाता
है तथा ऐसे Verb का अर्थ अपने - आपमें पूर्ण होता है ।
जब वाक्य में
एक ही Verb हो , तब उसे Principal Verb कहते हैं ।
A Principal or Full Verb has a meaning of its
own.
There are two types of Principal Verb-
- Transitive Verb ( सकर्मक क्रिया )
- Intransitive Verb

Transitive Verb (सकर्मक क्रिया)
जिस Verb के बाद Noun या Pronoun (
Object ) का प्रयोग
किया जाता है । उस Verb को Transitive Verb (सकर्मक क्रिया) कहते हैं ।
A Transitive Verb
is a verb which takes a Noun or Pronoun ( Object ).
इन वाक्यों को
देखो-
I write letter.
He eats a mango.
You read a book.
She helps me.
इन वाक्यों
में write, read, eats तथा helps Transitive Verbs है , इनके बाद letter, book, mango तथा me आया है । प्रथम तीन
शब्द Nouns हैं तथा अंतिम शब्द Pronoun है । इन Nouns/Pronoun को Verb का Object कहा जाता है ।
Intransitive Verb (अकर्मक क्रिया)
जिस Verb के बाद Object का प्रयोग नहीं किया
जाता है , उस Verb को Intransitive Verb ( अकर्मक क्रिया ) कहते हैं ।
An Intransitive Verb is a verb which does not require a Noun or Pronoun ( Object ).
इन वाक्यों को
देखो-
The dog barks.
He sleeps.
The sun rises.
She ran.
इन वाक्यों
में barks , sleeps, rises तथा ran Intransitive Verbs हैं । इनके बाद किसी Noun या Pronoun यानी Object कर्म का प्रयोग नहीं
किया गया है ।
Am, is, are, was, were भी Intransitive Verbs हैं । Modern English Grammar में am, is
are , was, were को Linking Verbs
कहते हैं।
Auxiliary Verbs (सहायक क्रिया)
वैसे Verbs जो Principal
Verb के काल क्रिया
की पूर्णता या अपूर्णता व्यक्त करने में सहायता दें , उन्हें Auxiliary
Verbs ( सहायक क्रिया ) कहते हैं ।
The function of an Auxiliary Verb is to help the Full
Verb in various ways.

She will come.
We have seen him
You can do it.
They must go.

इन वाक्यों
में am reading, is playing, will come, have seen , can do, must
go Verbs हैं ये सारे Verbs दो Verbs को मिलाकर बने हैं ।
इनमें am, is, will, have, can, must, will को Auxiliary या Helping Verbs कहते हैं तथा read ,
play , come , seen, do , go को Main या Principal Verbs कहते हैं।
